Although I have some experience with lace knitting, I am completely self-taught and I thought there are probably some things a course could show me that I don't know. It was a good guess. This is a relaxed, well-delivered course that includes important details for a learner. I never knew that stitches should be slipped purl-wise. I also didn't know that in a ssk the stitches should be slipped knit-wise. Nor did I know that fingering-weight yarn is a broader category than I thought, to include other type-names like lace, fine, sport, baby, etc. The life-line section was excellent. I've known about life-lines for a while but never used one and when he talked about the hassle mistakes can cause, I remembered what I went through with my first lace project - the time spent, the frustration of, first, trying to figure out what was wrong, second, the ripping out of so many rows, and third, the time and energy spent re-knitting. (If you added to the final product all the rows I ripped out, Paul Bunyan could have worn it.) And when he said that it's difficult if not impossible to figure out the mistake in all the stitch chaos of lace, I felt better knowing that this is a common issue and not necessarily because I don't know what I'm doing. And what I'll be doing now is using a life-line. In other words, this course covers a lot of basic need-to-knows of lace knitting. The teacher is laid-back, organized, excellent with detail, and focused on multiple aspects of lace-knitting, not just stitching. I'll be working my up the learning ladder with more courses.

Johnny's a great and very patient instructor! The idea of lace knitting has been a bit scary for me, but I'm practicing. And, with the help of your class on lace knitting, I think I'm getting more comfortable - and I think, maybe, am ready to knit a shawl! Thank you!!!

Great job, Johnny! I've been knitting for many years, but found I had a lot to learn about lace knitting. And I did learn a lot! Now i feel ready to tackle some scarves I've been thinking about. Great class!
